Theory, theory and more theory. That is what learning is all about. Learning is a structured activity. Students spend more time looking into the books than looking out of the books. The education system expects students to learn theory. Hours are spent on drilling theory into the brains of students. Theory, that has taken centuries to develop.

Theory

If learning becomes a practical experience, understanding theory becomes easy. Practical followed by theory is an easy way to learn. Most of the discoveries were made through practical performances or experiments.

If the core of learning is shifted to experiments coupled with theory, it would enthuse the students to perform better. Innovations can only come by way of experimenting.

Cooking too is an art that refines itself only on cooking again and again. A singer, a dancer, a surgeon excels in his skills by performing and not just by reading books.

Similarly, a swimmer can swim not by learning the theory of swimming, but by immersing himself in the swimming pool. A student may score high in the theory of swimming, but would it ensure him to swim? No! Same is the case with cycling, and all sports.

Learning must be taken up through experimentation or practical performances. Learning theory is a boring activity.

Practical

Darwin's theory of evolution was born out of practical observations. Newton's law of gravity was the fruit of practical observations. Kekule's imagination gave rise to the structure of the benzene ring. Mendeleev's imagination was at the base of the periodic table of elements. Yes, imagination and practical observation together contribute in developing a subject.

Isn't schooling more theory and no practical?
