'I simply cannot do this', 'It is very difficult', 'I have failed in doing this' are common statements we make. But most of the times we make these statements out of disinterest towards doing something. They are more in keeping with the law of inertia - 'a body kept in motion or in a state of rest remains so unless acted upon by an external force'.
We respond similarly. We only act when the situation demands us to. If a certain situation is avoidable the mind takes rest and does not push us hard to do something. But if we tell our mind to do something, our mind makes us to move in that direction.
Great discoveries have happened because there was a sincere urge to do and achieve something. Our brain acts in response to the desires of our mind and leads us to where we wish to.
'Think big', 'Dream big' are orders we should give to ourselves. Thinking and dreaming lead us to the destination that we have in our mind.
